Hypnotherapy is the process of inducing hypnosis and then making suggestions as a form of therapy.
Hypnosis or trance is a naturally occurring state which we dip in and out of throughout the day. Have you ever driven somewhere and upon arrival wondered how on earth you got there? Where did the journey go? Or have you attempted to talk to someone who is entirely engrossed in a programme that they are watching, you have been speaking for a while and they finally turn to you and say ‘What? Eh?’
The difference with Clinical Hypnotherapy is that the therapist is there to help guide you into the relaxed and resourceful state of trance. Once there the therapist will work with you to help resolve any issues, anxieties, deep-seated fears, problematic experiences, fertility issues or addictions with which you may be struggling.
The client always remains in control and is fully aware of everything that is taking place. The mind may wander while the therapist talks but always returns to what is being said. The client is always able to emerge from the hypnotic state at will.
Everyone can enter a state of trance as it is very normal to do so. From young to old, nervous or not this is obtainable by everyone. As with most things in life we improve with practice and the same can be said of hypnotherapy. We learn and we get better.
